Response 5 Education and the Structural Crisis of Captial

This article discuesses the topic and different reason that the education system is "failing" over the years. They have many different arguments on what exactly is happenening.
The first argument is that it is the teachers fault, and that the teachers are becoming lazy and slacking, not so much as even caring about the students and how they improve in their education levels. They say they are not getting paid enough to actually care about the students and try to teach the students the material.
Another argument is that it is the Capital Crisis and it's the government's fault that this so called system of eduaction of ours is failing. They think it is more important to discipline the students rather than encourage them.
In my opioion it is not necessarly the students or the teachers faults, although I do think that high school needs to prepare us more for college and the real world. I thought high school was the easiest thing in the world, I had straight A's, honor roll you name it, then I came to college and it was a huge reality check, it was way more than I had thought. I also have come to realize that students in my generation don't know how to do simple common since things, and the reason being that they don't teach things like that in the school and education systems these days.

domestic violence

I have decided to write about the domestic violence and how the media portrays women in society these days. I will talk about the different types of advertisement out there such as the media, the radio, books & magazines, television. Also i will discuss some of the history and how things have changed in the past from back in the day till the future. I will also talk about how the media thinks that these advertisements aren’t being violent but that they are only cutting edge, and artistic. I found this subject to be very interesting and very recent. The image I saw on your blog really disturbed me that people would honestly put a picture like that on an AD just to draw customers, even if it was in a negative way. This ad was about hair, except the main focal point was not the model’s hair, but it was the models bruised face with the man standing behind her holding up a piece of jewelry to make up for the “beating” I think that this is wrong in very many ways. The media should not be able to promote violence towards women or men in any sort of way, even though most leads towards women is it not fair to put things like that up.
I have three sources so far starting with the internet. The first website I got my information on was actually on diagolostic.blogspot. under http://feministing.com they had a lot of good and interesting information on the subject and how women are portrayed in society. It talks a lot about peoples opinions on the subject and how is it really discriminating to females.
Another website I got some information from was https://sites.google.com/a/sou.edu/sexualized-violence-against-women-in-advertising/  this website talks a lot about the term “rape myth.” Rape Myth is the cultural belief that women enjoy sexual assault and therefore share some of the blame in their attack. This is basically saying that it is ok for the media to make these sort of domestic violence advertisements because the women are asking for it, that’s what they like. Which in most cases is in fact not true. It shows that in some of the most famous companies they are using sexual violence to advertise. Even in simple household items such as toothpaste, gum, clothings, perfumes & colognes. Im most all advertisement women are portrayed as the “victim” in the Ad, whereas the male is the aggressor.
The last source I found on the subject was a book called DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THE POLITICS OF PRIVACY by Kristin A. Kelly. Ithaca: Cornell University Press, 2003. ISBN 0-8014-8829-X. volume 13 no. 7 (July 2003). This book just talking about domestic violence in general, but it helped me get a better understanding of the subject so that I would know exactly what to research and exactly what domestic violence was considered.
I think that this paper will be very interesting to learn and write about, I hope you feel the same.

Lazy Students or Lousy Teachers?

That seems to be the question on everyone’s mind these days. Recent studies show that students test scores and grades are reportedly failing. So easily enough they automatically went to blaming the teachers. It has to be the teachers fault that the kids are failing right, it would only make since?
That is just what some people seem to think, but in reality if you are comparing students from 100 years ago to the students in grade school right now. Look at all the things in technology, also just in life general since then. Students these days have plenty of distractions that the students back then didn’t have, what can you expect honestly? Internet, Xbox, Cell Phones, I could list for days the things that kids could easily be distracted from. Why learn boring school subjects such as math, science, reading, etc. when you can browse the internet, or watch your favorite TV shows.
According to the New York Times, “Mayors are threatening mass layoffs, including in places such as New York City and Rhode Island where all 1,936 teachers were told last week they would lose their jobs.” It has even gone as far as the public making comments about teachers stating that they are only baby sitters who leave work at 3 p.m and get the whole summers off, you don’t deserve what you make. Can you imagine how awful it would feel to hear that if you were a teacher, that you weren’t doing your job, it shouldn’t even be considered a real job. In my opinion that is ridiculous, have the people that are claiming this probably have no education themselves, and just like everyone in the world are finding someone else to blame, another excuse. Why can’t people just open their eyes are realize that it’s time to stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility for your own actions.
All over the world teachers are getting “laid-off” and or their salaries are being lowered because of this. The nation is blaming the teachers for the lack of interest in the youth today. Tony Bennett a superintendent of a public instruction in Indiana said, ““This is in no way, shape or form an attack on teachers; it is a comprehensive effort to reform a system.” They yet again are covering up the truth, they try to say they are doing this for the better, this will help the students, whatever they can come up with to take the blame off themselves, which in this case is the economy and technology.
The doctors and the government think they can also help with this lack of interest in school by medicating the kids. over 60% of students are prescribed with a medicine for ADHD. They are diagnosed and prescribed in a matter of no time. It’s like having little zombies running around. This is not the right way to go about it either in my opinion. They need to take a step back and really try to figure out the problem here, really try to fix things. Firing teachers and medicating students obviously isn’t working out to well.

The Real America-beyond the media

In Someplace Like America the guys went around the world living with, interacting with all different types of americans to see what problems they have had to faced throughout the years. Their story began around the 1980's when the research started. The authors Dale Maharidge and Michael S. Williamson joined teams and wanted america to know the real stories about the way the average person lived in america. They wanted to show the people what the mainstream media had been ignoring for so long. They showed us that these people were  losing not only their jobs but their lives as a result of deindustrialization.
They talk about certain people they really felt for in their journey. They listened to americans lives and documented it, this book is over about 30 years of their research, even involving times now. They talk about how the government had not only started shutting down factories but blowing them up and leaving hundreds of people unemployed. People had no other means of a way of living and they started losing their homes and basically their lives. So they resorted to living the "homeless" lifestyle living in tents, under buildings and bridges.
While reading this it actually helped me realized how easy we have it today in someways, and just how lucky you are if you have an average family that can afford a nice home, shelton, food, clothing.. ect. When a lot of the people out there can't afford the simple every day needs today. You never realize how much the media does cover up to make it look like we are such a "happy living place." When in fact people are out there hurting, needing jobs, needing shelter and having no way of getting or receiving them.

Thoughts on The Casey Anthony Trial Correspondence from A reader

As I am sure everyone knows or has at least heard of the Casey Anthony trial as to it was     all over headlines, news stations, and practically took over the media for quite a while. Casey Anthony, a 22-year old women who lived in Orlando Florida was accused of murdering her 2-year old daughter Caylee Anthony.
They found Caylee tied up in trash bags in the woods about a block or so from Miss Anthony’s home, Caylee’s mouth was duck taped shut. Caylee had been missing for 2 months before her mother Casey had admitted to her own mother that Caylee was “missing.”
Although the jury came to a verdict which was proven innocent and the case as beyond a reasonable doubt. There simply was not enough hard cold evidence that Casey had in fact killed her 2-year old Caylee. The prosecutor did not plead his case very well. His one point that he made over and over again had been that Casey partied a lot, and needed her free time. She did not need the responsibility of a child, when she was in fact still a child herself. They had pictures of Casey out at a club dancing and drinking the night away, while her 2 year old daughter had been missing.
This reader thought that there was more going on in this case than all the media attention that it has been getting. They are saying that the media “viciously” attacked Casey Anthony on her liberation, reproductive rights, critical thinking, and her legal rights. Just like they have every other women in the united states.
In the reports they had found they have no evidence that Miss Anthony had been distant in her daughters life, resentful, had ever hit her, or just the fact that she was not a playing loving mother. They are saying that there in fact was not enough evidence in this case to even say that Caylee had been murdered. They weren’t quite sure how Caylee had died, much less that her mother Casey had done it.
After the verdict all the jurors involved in this case that let Casey “get away with murder”  are now in danger. Some have even received death threats. America thought that this was an outrage that they had let her get away with this. Although American didn’t put in to perspective that the jurors had not seen all the media coverage, all the banting and slaughtering that every news station, every reporter, everyone had given Casey. All the jurors had seen were the cold hard facts of the case.
The media was forcing the idea that Casey was an abusive parent, a murder. They think this case was never about “Justice For Caylee” which a lot of the reporters had been calling this case. That this case was more of an incessantly. They are trying to say that young mothers are more than likely known for the child-abuse. That the mothers these days only care about themselves and “partying.”
In Florida they said that children die from abuse at a rate of four kids a week. Yet the system still allows no money to social programs that will help this situation. A reader from this leader corresponded as so. “They really do not give a damn about the suffering and deaths of thousands of children. But this death offered an opportunity for a national morality play about evil women/bad mothers, and for whipping up hysteria against the fundamentals of due process and justice, and that was in line with the overall atmosphere the system is actively creating right now. And that is why Caylee's death gave rise to the reactionary spectacle that is still unfolding at this moment.
